GIZ Global Project “Environmental Protection Worldwide”
The GreenTechKnowledgeHub is operated by the global project "Environmental Protection Worldwide" of GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit).
The global project supports the "Export Initiative Environmental Protection" of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) in its efforts to improve the enabling environment and develop markets for the introduction and long-term application of innovative, integrated environmental and climate change mitigation technologies, as well as the development of innovative green infrastructure in its partner countries. To this end, the project carries out measures designed to share environmental knowledge, raise environmental awareness, and build capacities. It provides specific technical advice to public and private sector actors according to their needs and is piloting modern environmental technologies to underpin technology transfer. The project helps pave the way for competitive and sustainable environmental infrastructure in partner countries while contributing to environmental protection and resource efficiency and economic development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and a ‘green transformation.’
The guiding principle of the "Export Initiative Environmental Protection" is that innovations for environmental protection, climate change mitigation and resource efficiency provide considerable opportunities for growth. Progressive environmental policies are viewed as a driver of innovation, qualification and ‘green transformation’, simultaneously offering competitive opportunities and substantial potential for reducing environmental pressures.
The project advances the topics of circular economy, sustainable waste management, single-use plastic prevention, and aims to reduce urban air pollution. Partner countries of the GIZ global project are Jordan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Ukraine. The project measures focus on building technical and institutional know-how and establishing the framework for introducing and using environmental and climate protection technologies "Made in Germany".
